Sum of Five started with one room and one question: why does a networking event put two hundred strangers in a hall and call it an introduction. We run the opposite — small rooms, sorted by industry, where the person beside you has a reason to be there.
It has grown to 7 industry series running on a five-week cycle across 27 cities in the United States and Canada. Each night has a host who runs the room and a venue that knows us, and each one is sold on a published guest list of roles rather than a headcount.
The format has not changed much. What changed is the number of cities it works in.
What a room is
- Sorted by industry. 7 series, so the room has a subject before anyone arrives.
- Small on purpose. Capped, seated where it helps, and closed when it is full.
- Run by a person. Every night has a named host, not a sign on a door.
- Every five weeks. The same city, the same series, so it compounds.
